Submariner

Below: Submariner sweater by North Sea Clothing, a reproduction of the original jumpers issued to Royal Navy Submariners in both world wars. Made in the UK from British wool, and yours for only £125. It almost makes me wish I had a trawler.
Above: A real submariner.

The 78 Project

I find old photographs and audio recordings quite spooky. So do these chaps apparently, and have been driving round the US making haunting recordings of contemporary folk musicians on an 90 year old direct-to-disc recorder. Digitised versions of the resultant 78rpm actetates after the jump, whilst the prize for my favourite spooky old song goes to Peggy Lee's version of I Only Have Eyes For You.

Couldn't resist

From fuckyeaheddieredmayne. Suggested captions: "Eddie Redmayne and I will prepare the horses for grandmother's funeral", or "Last weekend Eddie Redmayne and I went fly fishing".

Fuck yeah, &c.

I might have mentioned Bon Iver before, well he's such a dreamboat. This tumblr blog really tickled me; 'erotic' vignettes of exactly the kind of totally idyllic situations you'd be in if you were his girl. The caption for the above image: "We made love on a vintage army blanket this afternoon. Bon Iver got a distant look in his eyes. He said, ‘I love to feel the rough wool against my skin'." Quite.

If you're into this sort of thing, you probably already know about Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling, but for some serious Brit bromance, minus captions, go to fuckyeaheddieredmayne. And while we're on the subject, you should have a look at fuckyeaholivedrab, run by the guy behind the magnificent Cork Grips.

JAIL Make's Porteur

Probably one of the most beautiful porteurs I've ever seen, handbuilt by my pal Liam of JAIL Make. Need I say more?

(Old) Bike

While I try to make a balanced assessment of idyllic lifestyle pursuits, the emphasis here is surely on cycling. As well as numerous benefits, constantly addressed, I find that cycling lets me engage with a mythical Golden Age of delivering Hovis on cobbled streets and picnicking with gingham and wicker. To illustrate the point, have a look at the wonderful Old Bike Museum, and online museum charting the history of early 'safety bikes'. Its well worth a skim, but this bike (above) is a personal fave.

The Good Ship, Greenwich

So last weekend I visited Greenwich (for the second hand market, record and tape exchange and amazing park) and I found The Good Ship, a shop in the central covered market which opened only last October. Stocking premium, heritage inspired menswear brands Heritage Research and Gloverall, its likely that I'll be heading back there soon. Top marks for the surfboard on the wall.

Edit 22/10/12: Went by a couple of weeks ago and sadly this place has closed. Taken down the facebook page too so the link to the pic I was using is dead. RIP.

Terra Nova

Alongside the National History Museum's exhibition on the centenary of the British race to the South Pole, they have produced a beautiful set of classic enamelware which includes a bowl, plate and this mug. Stamped with the original logo of the expedition, and yours for only a tenner here or from the museum gift shop.

Still Cold

Maybe I should get a pair of these nice bottoms? (Peter Stormare in Fargo).

April Base

I'm also into interiors. At the moment in London its gone really wintery out, compared to the 20 degrees we had last week so I'm indoors watching films with snow in them.

To hibernate in style you could do much worse than Bon Iver's converted-indoor-pool-studio, April Base, complete with a wooden floor taken from the gymnasium of a local school. Its got every bit of the creaky, log cabin character you would expect. Screen caps are from this video by SPIN, via Hinteriors, and you can see the original article here.

Pics

A dreamy combo from Pendleton and Holga. Last week I dropped a friend's Holga and the back sprung open, unspooling half the film. I managed to get it back together (minus 1 weird plastic part) but I have a feeling I might have lost the pictures. Photography is not my strong suit.
