Allez!

As you can imagine, I'm pretty happy about le Tour result, and just as happy about how much of a worthy winner Bradley Wiggins is turning out to be. Not only is he clean & opinionated, the man is a real gent, with his own sense of style that goes beyond the lurid lycra that he wears on the road and a respect for the history and nostalgia of cycling as a sport. Note in the picture above, the wayfarer-style specs and general rock star vibe, and below, note his son's cycling cap - not baseball cap - and buttoned up shirt. Read about why Bradley is a cool mod here, and some good general rules for wearing cycling caps here (rule #22), here and here. Could this man become a style icon in the class of say, Beckham? Very possibly. And with sideburns like that and shaven legs, he's a shoe in to appear on the next Gillette ad campaign.

Scrub Up

Nice soap dishes, more at Izola.

Mountain Men

Its been raining quite a bit in the UK which means less time outdoors and more TV. Thankfully I've got Le Tour to keep me company, as well as this show. I'm not about to do a review, but suffice to say that hyper-masculine Mountain Men really delivers. Theres really plenty of bushcraft, hunting, tracking, log chopping and general wilderness to go round. See for yourself:

Thanks to my beau for putting me on to this.

Fergus Henderson

Today I saw a photo of John Steinbeck, who, it turns out, was a pretty swell looking guy. And I was about to post said picture, and thought "you know what, this blog should really have more trad Brit style". So instead I give you offal-cooking top chef Fergus Henderson, beautifully and eccentrically dressed here for Evening Standard (about a year ago):

Richard's Bicycle Book

So I'm currently reading Richard's Bicycle Book by Richard Ballantine. Its about 30-odd years old, but then so is my bike (a 70's Falcon 531 frame of dubious origin, in case you're wondering), so most of the repair and maintenance stuff is perfect for me, plus its full of more or less useful diagrams and these great Olde Worlde mock etchings by John Batchelor. Whoever he is.

J.Crew

The menswear landing page over at jcrew.com is really making me buzzy about the Summer holidays. I'm off to Cologne, then Berlin in a few weeks and I'm pretty sure my packing will look something like this.
Laundered linen shirt: CHECK
Pastel chino shorts: CHECK
