Vintage Menswear: A Collection From The Vintage Showroom

I heard about this book a couple of weeks ago, and incredibly I'd never visited The Vintage Showroom's Earlham Street shop before. I made a point to rectify this on Monday, on a little shopping trip with Miss PR. Needless to say the edit is astonishing, my particular favourites being a brace of 60's/70's cycling jerseys (currently a Tour themed window) and the US Navy N-1 deck jacket, which I have been coveting for a while now - didn't dare ask the price. The whole thing is a million miles away from the usual polyester jungles of London vintage shops, and if their retail outlet is as good as this, I can only imagine what gems their 'appointment only' basement/studio holds. Luckily, these secrets are revealed in their new publication, with great looking full-bleed photography and text. So for want of a good excuse to view the private collection, I guess I'll just have to buy the book. Have a rummage round their website for lots of lovely teaser pics too.

Apothecary

A quick run-down of what I like to keep in the bathroom cabinet, in case you're interested. High, & very masculine recommendation on all of this stuff.
Clockwise from top left:
Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap (alternate with the Kiehl's, smells like a grandad)
Euthymol Original Toothpaste (so you know you've REALLY cleaned your teeth)
Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Balm (tastes like coconut, SPF15, nuff said)

Plums

September is plum time and there are some great Brit varieties out in the supermarkets at the moment. I prefer them pinky-yellow & fresh, but of course they are equally enjoyable baked in a crumble with custard. Recommend.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

I've not been there, but I want to now due to this charming campaign currently running on the tube network and around the city. Stylistically based on mid-20th Century rail company adverts, and exploiting the current popularity of twee, stiff upper lipped and patriotic propaganda, this series of 3 Autumnal posters sells everything thats great about rural nostalgia. See the chaps responsible here, and more info about the place here.

Duck Hunter

Trusty Smythson diary tells me that various game hunting seasons are about to begin. With this in mind I've put together a field-sport-inspired-ebay-edit-outfit, though I'm not going to link to the auctions like a fool, as they're still live. Also, probably best not to wear this whole ensemble unless you are actually hunting:

Edit: Outbid on the jacket

Club Pics 83-98 approx

All pictures from the online gallery of my hometown cycling club. My great aunt and uncle used to run the club back in the 50's/60's and somewhere in the family archives is a treasure trove of their vintage cycling pics. Scans as soon as I get my grubby paws on them...
